Here we are using the CAGED system to build the matching scale shapes for the chords (see CHORDS 4, 5, 31) and then to convert those shapes into Modes.
This enables us to jump off the chord into a solo without losing focus or moving position. This method is covered in THEORY 23: Improv 3
