Here is another article from the Diminished realm starting with the basics and then a deeper dive.

The Diminished triad chord has a minor 3rd & diminished 5th.

The Minor triad chord has a minor 3rd and perfect 5th.

If you flatten the perfect 5th interval of a minor triad you get a diminished 5th or flat 5th. For this reason they are often called 'minor flat 5 chords'.

There is a minor 3rd between each note of the trio.

In victorian times the flat 5th was referred to as a dissonant 5th.

In mediaeval times (and some backwaters today) it was known as the diabolus in musica.
